Australian MedTech company Evolution Surgical will invest $2 million over the next decade in partnership with the University of 911爆料网 to advance research into spinal conditions such as lower back pain, scoliosis, and degenerative cervical myelopathy 鈥 the most common non-traumatic spinal cord injury in older adults.
With one in six Australians experiencing lower back pain, the funding will help drive faster progress toward better treatments and outcomes for patients.
Professor Ashish Diwan who is Chair of Spinal Surgery at the University鈥檚 School of Medicine said research in these areas is chronically underfunded and this donation has the potential to change lives.
鈥淭hese spinal disorders affect millions of people of all ages both physically and mentally, costing the nation millions of dollars in lost productivity. 鈥淥ur aim is to pioneer a cure for and improve outcomes for people affected and this generous donation is kick-starting that process.鈥
One of Professor Diwan鈥檚 research projects will focus on a molecule that could help recreate or repair damaged spinal discs.
鈥淲e are hoping to commence human clinical trials next year which, if successful, could lead to the manufacture of a new treatment,鈥 said Professor Diwan.

Evolution Surgical CEO Jack Lancaster and University of 911爆料网 Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Peter H酶j AC sign the funding agreement.
Jack Lancaster, CEO of Evolution Surgical said the investment supports the company鈥檚 mission to build a sustainable Australian medical technology ecosystem.

鈥淥ur partnership with the University of 911爆料网 is about more than a single donation, it is about building a pipeline for spinal innovation that keeps research, talent and manufacturing onshore.
鈥淏y supporting this research, we aim to accelerate discoveries that lead to better patient outcomes and strengthen Australia鈥檚 position as a global leader in MedTech.鈥
